The Shining Screening Forwards and Backwards at the Same Time
Jan 23, 2015
Join us on Friday, January 23rd in Gravesend Recordings in The Silent Barn (entrance at 13 Stanwix, back of silent barn) for a double dip reservation at The Overlook Hotel as we host a double feature screening of The Shining, being played forward and backwards simultaneously, and Room 237, a documentary deconstructing the mythos that surround the original film by Stanley Kubrick.
dir. Stanley Kubrick
“Stanley Kubrick’s cold and frightening “The Shining” challenges us to decide: Who is the reliable observer? Whose idea of events can we trust?…The movie is not about ghosts but about madness and the energies it sets loose in an isolated situation primed to magnify them.”
dir. Rodney Ascher
“A subjective documentary that explores the numerous theories about the hidden meanings within Stanley Kubrick’s film The Shining (1980). The film may be over 30 years old but it continues to inspire debate, speculation, and mystery. Five very different points of view are illuminated through voice over, film clips, animation and dramatic reenactments. Together they’ll draw the audience into a new maze, one with endless detours and dead ends, many ways in, but no way out.”
